About the Role

New Roots Institute is a nonprofit empowering the next generation with knowledge and training to end factory farming. The Leadership Academy, which runs from June 25 to August 15, is an immersive, experiential course in sustainable food systems leadership for high school and college students. Throughout the eight-week course, participants delve into the complexities of industrial animal agriculture and actively contribute to developing solutions. Surrounded by peers who share their dedication, participants will foster meaningful connections while pursuing collective goals.

During this eight-week program in sustainable food systems leadership, you'll be surrounded by like-minded, high-achieving peers who share your passion for making a real-world impact. You’ll learn about the challenges inherent in industrial animal agriculture and develop the mindsets and skill sets to advance systems-level change.

This program is more than just an online course—it's a collaborative space where ideas are nurtured, friendships are formed, and collective goals are pursued. By applying to the Leadership Academy, you’ll have the opportunity to be considered for the yearlong fellowship.

The Leadership Academy is offered on a pay-what-you-can basis.

About the Organisation

Through interactive, high school and college lessons, we inspire critical thinking and dynamic discussions about the connections between industrial animal agriculture and current key issues impacting us all—like animal welfare, climate change and environmental sustainability, human rights, and personal and public health.

Through our Leadership Program, we offer fellowships for students motivated to dig deeper into the impacts, and solutions, of factory farming—while being trained in effective communication, advocacy, and leadership skills. Upon completing the fellowship, alumni go on—with our continued support—to develop and empower other leaders to create change in their communities toward our shared goal of ending factory farming.
