We were founded in late 2019, through the Charity Entrepreneurship incubation program. Since then, over 55 thousand people have visited our website and many have changed their career plans based on our advice.

WHY WE EXIST
There is a critical shortage of skilled professionals in the animal advocacy movement.
This is one of the major issues holding back nonprofits from maximising their potential, according to our research.
Many organisations struggle to find and secure the talent they need. A lack of capacity and resources further impede access to the expertise needed for transformative impact.

Animal nonprofits are falling behind in talent attraction in a competitive landscape.
While the for-profit industry invested an astounding USD$761 billion globally in recruitment and HR services in 2023 (IBIS World Research), the non-profit farmed
animal space allocated a modest $500,000 to in-house recruiters worldwide.
With such a lack of investment, it is no wonder we are struggling to recruit talent.

FUNDRAISING WORK PLACEMENT
The FWP was a new pilot programme implemented in 2022, designed to bring in talented individuals from adjacent sectors on a 6-month placement, working in fundraising at animal advocacy nonprofits.
We focused first on offering this service specifically for fundraising roles, because our research about hiring difficulties has confirmed that nonprofits find it especially difficult to hire high-quality candidates for this type of work, while simultaneously also struggling with lack of funding.
We had 206 applications, of which we’ve selected 9 to be placed at different organisations across 6 countries, working an equivalent of 3 FTE months.

We list roles at impact-focused animal nonprofit organisations where we expect that the role has an unusually high impact potential for animals.
Our job board is also a great tool for attracting people interested in animal advocacy roles for our website. Almost 35% of our traffic arrive at our website through the job board page.
We’ve heard of 7 people who have found their roles through our job board. But since we have thousands of people visiting our job board each month, it is likely that the true number is higher.

In 2023, we're excited to introduce our Top Candidate Database, an exclusive program that links organisations with top candidates from previous hiring rounds.
This program aims to solve hiring challenges in the movement and make it easy for both small and large organisations to find the best talent efficiently. We believe the Top Candidate Database will be essential for strengthening the animal advocacy community in the long run by retaining and supporting talented advocates.

Our recruitment specialist has also offered a small number of consultancy calls to organisations with their hiring processes; 6 out of 8 organisations estimated the quality of the candidate that they hired was somewhat better after this consultation and 2 out of 8 organisations estimated they at least doubled the amount of candidates who applied after the consulting.
We no longer provide recruitment services in the previous format. Instead, we’re pivoting this service into one that we believe is more scalable: the top candidate database.

Thank you for your interest in our work! There are many ways you can get involved with Animal Advocacy Careers, but one of the most helpful contributions you can make is to support us financially.
We are fully run through philanthropic donations. We have been supported by Open Philanthropy, Animal Charity Evaluators, Effective Altruism Funds, Charity Entrepreneurship, and individual donors, but it is vital that we develop a sustainable funding model with multiple funding sources. We do not expect to be able to meet our funding needs by grants alone, so your support is crucial to our mission. Currently, we need to raise $30,000 USD to meet our target until the end of this year.
