OUR IMPACT

Animal Advocacy Careers’ mission is to address the career and talent bottlenecks in the animal advocacy movement, especially the farmed animal movement.

We were founded in late 2019, through the Charity Entrepreneurship incubation program. Since then, over 50 thousand people have visited our website and many have changed their career plans based on our advice.

Case Studies

CASE STUDIES

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND:

Worked in sales and account management for nearly three decades for various press and media companies, such as the BBC.

JOB SEARCH:

Susanna wasn’t actively looking for new roles. She had her LinkedIn set to “open to offers” and was hoping to work for an organisation that aligned with her values.

This could have been something helping the environment or animals, but she would have been happy working at the BBC again or another company with positive social effects. She thought that without significant experience in the charity sector, she may not have been considered for a fundraising-focused position, so wasn’t planning to make direct applications.

HOW DID AAC HELP:

Susanna connected with AAC’s recruitment specialist on LinkedIn, after seeing a post by her promoting the role at Animal Equality. AAC reviewed Susanna’s CV and encouraged her to apply for the Animal Equality role; Susanna is confident that she wouldn’t have applied had it not been for AAC’s encouragement. After liaising with AAC and learning more about the role and organisation, Susanna recognised that her experience and values aligned with those of Animal Equality.

OTHER CONTACT WITH THE ROLE:

Engagement with AAC’s recruitment specialist was the first time that Susanna heard about the Animal Equality role. Of course, at that point she looked the organisation up and saw the role listed on the website, but didn’t otherwise encounter any further promotions of the role (e.g. on social media or job boards).

IMPACT OF OUR SERVICES

Our online course plays a crucial role to achieve one of our priorities: support promising individuals to evaluate, explore, and prepare for high-impact career paths in the animal advocacy movement.

It introduces people to the sorts of career opportunities that exist in the space and supports them to evaluate which options will be the best fit for them and for animals.

REGIONS OF PARTICIPANTS

EXAMPLES OF PARTICIPANTS' LEARNINGS

“I got new ideas concerning possible career paths that I had not considered earlier. I also feel that I am more capable of analysing my potential in possible roles more systematically than before and have more tools to do research on them.”

“I've always thought I would like  to volunteer or work in a sanctuary. After this course I want to entirely focus on institutional interventions.”

“Since I started the course I found a job in an NGO focused on animal advocacy. The knowledge I have gathered in the course has provided me with a view on the movement as a whole and validates my work by making me realize the contributions I am making.”

FUNDRAISING WORK PLACEMENT

Work Placement

Our work placement programme is supporting and encouraging highly promising candidates to enter careers in effective animal advocacy nonprofits.

We are focusing first on offering this service specifically for fundraising roles, because our research about hiring difficulties has confirmed that nonprofits find it especially difficult to hire high-quality candidates for this type of work.

We had 206 applications, of which we’ve selected 9 to be placed at different organisations across 6 countries, working an equivalent of 3 FTE months.

Animal Advocacy Careers is an exceptional organisation and Lauren Mee is a superb leader.

Through AAC's paid (by ACC) Fundraising Work Placement program, Lauren matched us with a very talented Development Consultant who helped enormously with our fundraising program, particularly through the year-end charitable crush so many nonprofits face.

AAC and Lauren are providing a unique and much needed resource for the animal protection movement. And each time I'm asked for advice on starting or further developing a career in animal protection, I'm reminded of how fortunate we all are to be able to point to AAC as the place to start.

Hires

Our recruitment specialist has also offered a small number of consultancy calls to organisations with their hiring processes; 6 out of 8 organisations estimated the quality of the candidate that they hired was somewhat better after this consultation and 2 out of 8 organisations estimated they at least doubled the amount of candidates who applied after the consulting.

WHAT OUR PARTNERS SAY

"Animal Advocacy Careers have excelled in meeting and supporting our recruitment brief. When working with a recruitment firm it is important that the recruiter understands the specifics of the sector they are recruiting for and the sensitivities of the client’s position in this space.

Our requirements were detailed and specific and Animal Advocacy Careers guided us through the recruitment process. With their knowledge of animal welfare, the sector and the recruitment process they made sure that the highest calibre of candidate was shortlisted.

Working with Animal Advocacy Careers has brought us highly qualified and experienced team members that continue to contribute to our work and advance our animal welfare advocacy. We continue to work with Animal Advocacy Careers, and we look forward to a long and continued relationship."

JOB BOARD

Job Board

Our animal advocacy job board connects animal nonprofits with candidates looking for an animal advocacy role.

We list roles at impact-focused animal nonprofit organisations where we expect that the role has an unusually high impact potential for animals.

Our job board is also a great tool for attracting  people interested in animal advocacy roles for our website. Almost 35% of our traffic arrive at our website through the job board page.

We’ve heard of 7 people who have found their roles through our job board. But since we have thousands of people visiting our job board each month, it is likely that the true number is higher.
