You will lead one of our Areas in East Anglia, Solent and South Downs, Thames, Wessex, West Midlands, or Yorkshire, overseeing the delivery of the Environment Agency’s work on regulation, flood risk, sustainable growth, and incident management.

Job description
As a member of the wider team of 16 other Area Directors who collectively lead over 7,000 people across England from the Scottish borders to the Isles of Scilly, you will help drive a fantastic organisation, working together to shape the environment across England and playing a critical role in responding to the climate and nature emergencies.

You will be accountable for harnessing £multi-million budgets and developing sustainable strategies for some of the most at-risk parts of the country in terms of flood risk, social deprivation, and economic growth.

We’re looking for applicants who believe that providing great leadership is fundamental to our ability to protect the environment and effectively serve the communities we live in. You’ll be calm in a crisis, have excellent communications skills, good judgement, and be a great collaborator and facilitator.

You’ll be emotionally intelligent & resilient and able to build consensus, influencing senior level stakeholders to make the best choices for the environment and our business.

You must have experience in leading and improving Health & Safety culture, as well as being passionate about developing others, being innovative in your thinking and a team player.
