About the Role

Purpose of the job:
Collaborate with the various MFA teams to create a science-based policy and regulatory environment that favors the promotion of the organization's mission in Brazil. In this role, you will work to participate in the construction of public policies (before the Legislative and Executive Powers) that support the transformation of food systems and the promotion of diets based on products of plant origin, in substitution of products of animal origin and that reduce the extreme suffering of animals in the food industry. 

Responsibilities:
* Collaborate with the MFA Departments, especially Corporate Policy, Investigations, Food Policy and Legal to establish strategic priorities for participation in the construction of public policies (Legislative and Executive Branches). 
* Monitor, review and interpret changes in federal, state and municipal legislation related to the exploitation of animals in factory farms and food policies.
* Support the management of communication and advocacy campaigns, from defining the campaign plan and call to action, creating texts, engaging with strategic stakeholders and monitoring results.
* From the strategic priorities of the MFA, analyze and identify opportunities for improvements in legislation and regulations that affect animals considered for consumption and in food policies that drive the promotion of diets with products of plant origin.
* Build and establish an excellent collaboration environment and professional relationship with regulatory agencies, ministries, and other decision-making bodies of the federal government and with agents of the federal legislative power (Chamber of Deputies and Federal Senate), state and municipal (of strategic states and municipalities ).
* Support the Executive Board in strengthening strategic partnerships with networks of entities and organizations with the power to influence priority topics for the advancement of the MFA mission.
* Develop a blog, posts, articles and content to support discussions and speeches on government relations and public policy issues.
* Work with the Communication and Marketing Department team to mobilize supporters and media.
* Monitor compliance with contracts with external political intelligence consultants.
* Monitor political analyzes of the legislative and executive powers, both at the federal level and in strategic states and municipalities; 
* Comply with all Mercy For Animals policies and procedures;
* Perform other activities required by supervision.

Minimum requirements:
* Full-level experience in government relations and public policy;
* Experience working in successful cases of advocacy in Brasilia;
* Creativity, innovation and skill in problem solving and negotiation;
* Knowledge of legislative and regulatory/administrative processes;
* Ability to work on several projects at the same time, meeting deadlines and deliveries;
* Resourcefulness for public speaking and excellent ability to prepare presentations;
* Excellent analytical and science-based research ability;
* Ability to communicate persuasively and compassionately, considering political sensitivities and different perspectives and motivations of different stakeholders;
* Support the mobilization and engagement of multiple stakeholders in change processes;
* Willingness to travel;
* Verbal and written fluency in Portuguese;
* Advanced English in writing and conversation;
* Alignment with the mission and values of the organization;
* Support for the Mercy For Animals philosophy and ability to professionally represent the organization's positions;
* Commitment and openness to continuous personal and organizational growth based on principles of diversity, equity, inclusion and justice.

Desirable Requirements:
* Knowledge of the animal protection movement and the nexus between the welfare of animals considered for consumption, health, the environment and sustainable development.
