About the Role
The Humane Society International (HSI), an affiliate of The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s most effective animal advocacy organization, is seeking a Capacity Building Coordinator in India. In this position you will implement the strategy of the capacity building program in Karnataka/ West Bengal while documenting results and impact.
Responsibilities:
Program Implementation
• Serve as the HSI/India representative on any government committees or bodies established for the purpose of animal welfare in the state;
• Coordinate and execute capacity building programs for government and non-government organisations or individuals as directed by the Senior Manager, Capacity Building;
• Works with Senior Manager, Capacity Building to develop visually appealing and content driven training, information, education, and outreach material meant for institutional and individual beneficiaries of the program;
• Conduct needs assessment, perception studies, impact evaluation metrics and any other data collection required for the fulfilment of the program objectives;
• Collate and compile data as required pertaining to the program either through written letters, applications under right to information act or in-person meetings with government departments;
• Serves as an independent member of the district Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) of two districts to ensure they fulfil their duties to the best extent possible;
• Coordinates and assists with any animal welfare issues in the state as directed by Senior Manager, Capacity Building or Director, Government Affairs;
Collaboration with external agencies
• Follow through and ensure the fulfilment of collaboration and terms of reference with various government departments, societies, and committees of the state for animal welfare;
• Develop and foster working relationship with regional and national media to showcase work carried out in the state;
• Ensure smooth and efficient facilitation of programs for external trainers, if any, including but not limited to, logistics and technological support;
• Engage with officer training academies at a grass-root level to ensure delivery of programs to government officers of all ranks in preferred regional language;
Capacity Building and Reporting
• Coordinates and assists in conducting capacity building workshops for the judiciary, the police, the forest department, veterinarians, and local animal welfare activists to educate and sensitize them on animal laws and animal welfare;
• Reports on the progress of program to government stakeholders, partners and donors as required;
• Coordinates and assists in conducting sensitization and awareness workshops for regional media;
• Participates in skill building programs relevant to this role including, but not limited to programs on conducting surveys and handling animals;
• Performs other duties or responsibilities, as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Graduate degree or equivalent work experience required;
• A minimum of three (3) years of experience in animal protection work required;
• Experience in collecting data;
• Experience in government liaising;
• Knowledge of contacts amongst government institutions;
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in Kannada,Bengali and English. Written and verbal communication skills in Hindi a plus;
• Attention to detail and commitment to excellence demonstrated by the delivery of quality and timely outcomes;
• Strong interpersonal skills necessary;
• Strong negotiating skills;
• Proficiency of basic computer applications including the internet;
• Ability to communicate complex subject matter to a variety of audiences;
• Strong interest in animal protection issues preferred.
